ActivatorDesk Administator may be used to 'Lock Down' a Windows computer so that only a single individual or select individuals may access it and be limited to view only select web sites or run select Windows programs. To login as Administrator and to access setup of these special features click on the 'Administrator' button at the top of the Administrator interface. You will then be presented the login dialog shown below.
You may log into the Windows PC you are using 'localhost' or to a remote PC located anywhere on your network or the internet to administer desktop security. Once you are logged in as Administrator you may setup Boot Security and User Accounts and their access levels.
Once you are logged in, you may be surprised to see User Accounts and Programs lists already populated with names and version information. This is because when ActivatorDesk Agent is loaded it automatically updates the database with programs information, including special unique signatures and version and origin information! Also, every time all ActivatorDesk programs are run, they update the database automatically relative to the Windows logged in user. Because this data is collected (on the local PC only) you do not have to enter most of the information. The only tasks remaining are to select a Boot Security Mode (how Activator Agent loads) and setup User Accounts access permissions.
After Login on the left of the Administrator interface the following selections now appear in a tree:
- Default New User - Permits setup of minimum settings of security on the PC. Any New User logging in will 'receive' these settings when the ActivatorDesk 'sees' the new user.
- Default Security - Permits setup of main Activator Agent boot security mode or may be used to turn bot security off.
- Users Folder and Accounts - Users setup. Simply select a User Account to edit the settings for. Note: Administrator and Default accounts are required and may not be deleted.
Special Note: If a User appears with a Red Marker on it, this is a 'Disabled User Account' as opposed to an 'Enabled User Account'. ActivatorDesk licensing limits the maximum users accounts allowed on any one PC CPU Machine ID. Only 'Enabled' accounts may login to the PC. Accounts may be disabled using the Disable Button on the top of the interface. User accounts will normally be created by ActivatorDesk programs, but if you require Adding, Deleting, or Disabling an account, you may use the buttons to do so at the top of the interface. The Edit User Button may be used to change a users password on his or her account.

One Database.. Many Users - Administrator also performs setup of user accounts and enables an administrator to define what levels of access to the desktop is allowed for each user. This is 'aligned' with the Windows User logged in matching settings to individual users, including security switches, graphical skins, wallpaper, etc. all automatically. Even each new user logging in is automatically setup with 'Default New User' settings which are the 'Minumum PC Security Level' settings preset by the desktop administrator.
Boot Security Setup: - When presented with 'Default Security' settings the following choices are made available:
- None - No boot security used. Use this setting to also 'Turn Off' boot security. (default mode)
- Windows Login Only - ActivatorDesk Agent boots at Windows startup using Windows logged in user account to align settings and boot security.
- ActivatorDesk Login Only - ActivatorDesk Agent boots at Windows startup and uses ActivatorDesk User to align account security settings
- Windows and ActivatorDesk Login - Uses BOTH ActivatorDesk and Windows user to align security settings.
